Mí Pudoe, Hortizo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stood before the Delusian International Assembly. She felt as if millions, no, billions of eyes were fixed on her. It was intimidating. But this wasn’t a challenge she was unfamiliar with. With a calming exhale, she nodded her head slightly and scanned the room. Leaning slightly towards the microphone, she began her speech confidently.
“Esteemed delegates and diplomats of Delusia. I come before you today in a time of need, an urgent need for action. As I speak, thousands of innocent people are dying and suffering as violent empires wish to subjugate those who want to remain free. Entire villages are being razed to the ground and family lines are being violently ended. And what are we doing? Sitting here in comfort, far from troubles and conflict, just out of reach of those who would wish to enslave us.
“Our inaction dooms millions to die and suffer. But we can prevent this. We can fight against this suffering. We can fight this death. We can save those who are helpless, who wish only for freedom.”
Minister Pudoe inhaled. Looking over the large assembly once more, she glanced at the next part of her speech and continued.
“We have a special opportunity to act. And we must act. Action is the pathway to peace, whereas inaction will only bring pain and suffering. Not pain and suffering to an unknown face in a far-off land, but to your own home, to your own family. Perhaps not tomorrow or the day after, but in years or even mere months. You will look back on this moment and think, ‘I had a chance to prevent this.’ Take that chance! Fight against evil, against war, fight for peace!”
Minister Pudoe steadied herself. Her brief surge of passion and resolve had been spent, now she felt somewhat tired and slightly embarrassed. She cleared her throat and finished her speech.
“We call for the following action from the Delusian International Assembly…”
- United sanction on the Venauron Empire, prohibiting all trade between the Venauron Empire and DIA members
- Official Condemnation of the Venauron Empire’s invasion of Debsia
- Assembly of a united combat force to aid the defenders of the North Debsian Confederation and stabilize the region from further conflict and unrest
