(same thing I posted to the RMB and Discord, but colourful)
I'm Mon. I'm running for Councillor of Domestic Affairs. I've been in the region for a bit over five months. In that time, I've grown to see the DSA as a community, and consider myself a part of this community.
The contests recently haven't had much interest. Instead of trying to gain more interest in them, I've listened to what some of you have been saying in relation to domestic affairs: more diverse activities. Debate nights, game nights, discussions, etc. I have thought of a few ways to accomplish this, all of course depending on if there is interest from you.
First, movie nights. This would work by simply using the discord share screen feature, where I (or someone else if they wished to share their movie / media) could play a movie from Netflix, potentially Amazon Prime, or any anime movie. For a frequency, I was thinking once every two weeks (or two dates a month that tend to work for a good number of people). No need to sign up. Just show up. For which movie to watch, that'll be up to a vote.
My next idea was to organize a low-effort book club. I know this has been brought up, but it's hard to coordinate to read a full length book. Solution: short stories. I have found numerous websites that offer free (no sign up!) short stories, from self published authors *and* well known authors. The stories are in all kinds of genres. They're also manageable to read in a couple of hours at most. For a frequency for this, about one short story per week. I would post a link to the story on the RMB and discord, and maybe keep a thread on the proboards so all previous books could be accessed. From there it would be based around discussion of the story. (I will ensure the stories are appropriate before sharing). It also doesn't have to be short stories. It can be any form of accessible media. This would also be no sign up, just show up.
An idea that I haven't looked into too much yet is getting together a document that details small games people can play together. Games such as an online multiplayer chess game, checkers, battle ship, etc. This would allow you to play games with each other whenever and not have to rely on a large game being organized. We *could* make it so every month the wins and losses for the games are tallied (simply by messaging me with the game played, the players, and the winner(s) / loser(s)). If desired, there could be a prize for whoever: wins the most games overall, per category; most losses; etc etc. I may delegate this to the DoCA.
And, of course, I'm always willing to listen to input and suggestions from you. If there are any ideas you have, please let me know. If there are things done in the past that you'd like to continue doing, I'm happy to do so.
Thank you ^_^
